What is Argentium Silver?
For hundreds of years, the silver used in the production of jewelry was made by combining silver and copper in a proportion of 92.5% pure silver, respectively 7.5% copper. Argentium is the most significant development of silver in hundreds of years.
Argentium Silver was invented by Peter Johns of Middlesex University, London. His initial research focused on removing fire tarnish from traditional 925 (Sterling) silver, which used the element Germanium. In his research, he found that germanium adds additional benefits, including oxidation resistance, but also heat hardening properties.
Because of the way it was formulated, Argentium Silver is an alloy that has better oxidation resistance, a higher pure silver content, a whiter color and better scratch resistance.
