What does Vermeil mean?

About vermeil

Gold Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a specific type of premium gold finish.

Vermeil jewelry is made of a very thick layer of gold over high quality 925 silver.

We use an 18 karat gold plating for its warm color, durability and preciousness. Our 18 karat gold plating is at least 2.5 microns thick, which makes the jewelry more durable and stain resistant.

To be considered vermeil, the piece must meet certain qualifications:

- The base of the metal must be made of 925 silver (92.5% pure silver).

- The purity of the gold must be at least 10 karats

- The thickness of the gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns (0.0025 millimeters)

How do we take care of vermeil jewelry?

The lifespan of a Vermeil jewelry is based on the gold layers. The thicker the gold plating, the longer the life of the piece.

Another factor to consider is the purity of the vermeil. The higher the purity of the gold, the softer and more susceptible to scratches and damage.

After years of daily wear and tear or too much water and contact with chemicals, vermeil plating can stain or damage. We recommend avoiding friction that can cause scratches on the surface of the jewelry and protection from prolonged contact with products containing perfume or other chemical agents. Cleaning can be done with warm water and a soft soap, followed by drying with a soft cloth or with specialized products for silver jewelry.
