Take us back to the beginning of monom. What was your aim when creating the brand, and how have you achieved it?
At first, I just wanted some very specific types of jewellery I could not find on the market. I didn't see it as a business yet, I just wanted to make some first models and see how they are received. Then I discovered the happiness of creating something and seeing it happen right away ( I am an architect and in my field of work, it takes years to see your work accomplished). Then I began to set small milestones from where I was to take it a step further. And that is how we grew.
Who is the monom woman?
She is educated and bold. She has strong beliefs and knows how and what to stand for. She loves having beautiful things and knows how to wear them. She has her shit together and she knows what she wants.
What is your design signature?
Bold, strong lines, clear shapes, minimalist structures, geometries which contrast the body.
What do you love about jewelry?
I love jewellery's power of transformation. It can change an outfit just by being there. It can also change your mood and attitude, just like the right lipstick can. I also love the way it can either hide aspects we don't like or enhance features we love about ourselves.
Is there a certain philosophy you have when it comes to designing the collections?
I couldn't say I follow a certain philosophy. Anything could inspire me, I just try to stay true to our core values and beliefs. I don't like copying, I don't like doing things that don't represent us as a brand, we don't do things just because they are trending at a certain point. We believe a piece of jewellery (when cared for properly) can last a lifetime and it should be timeless.
Who is the woman behind the brand? What does she enjoy most doing?
She is fierce and she likes to be alone. Jokes aside, I am an introvert, I like things done well, I like people to keep their word and I chose to stay here (in Romania) to make a change.
What is your daily uniform and has it changed over the years?
Mostly work related, my style used to be more "office" and "official". It relaxed a lot over the years.
Now it's mostly black or dark coloured (although I see this change a bit with age). It's either jeans, a neutral top and a blazer, or an A-shaped dress or skirt, with an accentuated waist. I love a high heel, but I rarely wear any in these times.
How would you describe your style?
Minimalist, clean, utilitarian with a twist.
What are your top five go-to beauty favourites?
Oh, boy. I am a skincare and make-up junkie. And I will try to keep it short. At the moment, top 5, but random order:

What has been the biggest challenge since launching monom?
It's a challenge everyday. Or maybe now, 5 years later, every other day :) Fighting mentalities, bureaucracy and indolence.
How do you manage your work/life balance?
It's a constant struggle, but I have learned to listen to my body. I couldn't say I know when to stop, but I learned to listen to my body when it tells me no. It's a difficult balance and a very fine line, but it also comes with plenty of joy and benefits.
What is the best advice you’ve received?
A friend once told me to never say never and always keep an open mind. My parents have taught me that work is never shameful.
What will you never compromise on in business?
The well-being of my team. If there is something the last two years have taught us, it is that you have to take care of your people and keep them safe.
